Gatehouse are a newly-formed traditional group with a line-up of experienced and up-and-coming artistes. Their songs and tunes are grounded in the North Connaught tradition, with sprinklings of other influences. The band draws on the music of composers such as O’Carolan and Josie McDermott, among others.
The group comprises: John McEvoy (fiddle/viola), John Wynne is a leading player and tutor of the North Connaught flute style and Jacinta McEvoy who is equally adept on guitar, concertina and piano. The singing of Rachel Garvey is a special feature of this album; Rachel sings seven beautiful songs in all, in Irish and in English, with exquisite accompaniment from the group, particularly Jacinta’s intuitive guitar accompaniment.
Martin Hayes has written of the new Gatehouse release: “This CD is beautifully arranged and recorded and everything happening here is authentic."
